One of those "chocolate & peanut butter" ideas that came together with inspiration from Vermont and those online articles about the most beautiful libraries in the world. Working with a great team of advisers and guest judges, we sorted thru over 100 nominations and narrowed the list to 20 in the first round of voting. Round 2 was much harder!

Replacing the seminal (but by then outdated) 2006 GPLS Trustee Manual was a daunting prospect. With the help of many advisers, the Trustee Handbook was distributed to the almost 2,000 library board members across Georgia in 2017. An online appendix helps streamline updates and allows for more flexibility than the previous binder of content.

The award-winning Georgia's Treasure's booklet was a labor of love for me, director of HomePLACE Angela Stanley, and the then-director of Communications at GPLS, David Baker. We road-tripped to the three South Georgia libraries featured, taking pictures and meeting with the library staff who run these genealogy rooms.

The hiring process for the new director of Communications took a tad longer than expected. I was fortunate to have a lot of help publishing the February 2018 GPLS newsletter on time and on budget during the interim. This edition showcases the 2017 Award Winners as well.
